Meal Plan

Hi All,

I have been doing Josh Thigpen’s Cube Method for Strongman 2.0 for almost 12 weeks.  I have seen gains in all areas of functional and maximal strength.  I figured I have been training my muscles, now I really need to break down and get my diet in order.  I have always struggled with my weight and diet.  I have tried everything from eating very little (i.e. cottage cheese and tuna diet, only juicing diet) to eating 8 times a day with balanced food.  I have never found anything  that works for me or is easy for me to stick to.  I am going to give it another go with Josh Thigpen’s Performance Nutrition Encyclopedia (you can purchase this through http://www.jtsstrength.com, there is a link to the website in the blog roll) sample meal plan for strongman.  I have adjusted it a little bit due to when I workout and what time I usually eat due to work.  Here is what I am going to try to do for at least the next 4 weeks.

Daily Plan:

5:00 – Wake up, take 1 a day multivitamin and heart health supplement, drink Dark Rage pre-workout, 1/2 scoop

5:30 – Workout

6:45 – Drink Dark Matter post-workout, 1 scoop

7:45 – Drive to work, Drink Isofast Whey Protein, 1 scoop

8:00 – Breakfast, 6 eggs, 1 1/2 cup mixed vegetables, 1 cup oatmeal (dry measure)

12:00 – Lunch, 6 oz chicken breast, large leafy green salad w/ light dressing, 3 oz yam/sweet potato

4:30 – Dinner, 8 oz lean beef/fish, 4 cups steamed vegetables, 1 cup brown rice (cooked measure)

6:00 – Drink Dark Rage pre-workout, 1/2 scoop

6:30 – Workout

7:30 – Drink Dark Matter post-workout, 1 scoop

8:30 – Bedtime Snack, 2 cups non-fat cottage cheese, 1 cup berries

9:00-9:30 Go to bed

I am going to cook all of my meals in advance.  I am going to try to cook 6 days worth of food each weekend. If I can’t do that I will try to make meals from 5:00-6:30 pm and 7:30-9:00 pm.

I am currently taking ISO Fast Whey Protein, Dark Rage, and Dark Matter from Maximum Human Performance.  I have only used them for about a week so I will keep you posted on how they are affecting me/working for me and post a product review when I am done with them (maybe a couple months worth so I can make sure I am getting the full effect).wpid-20141009_164133.jpg

Here is the weight bench that I am using at the Heavy Hammer Gym. It is the Marcy Pro series bench and squat rack. It came with 300 lbs of weight.  2″ olympic plates and bar. I have purchased 2 more 45 lb plates to go along with it.Marcy Pro

Here is a pic of the new farmer’s walk handles I had made at Bower Welding and Fabrication.  They weigh 55 lbs unloaded, but, so far, have handled over 150 lbs of weight each.

Hello Everyone.  I am sorry it has been a while since I last posted on this blog.  It has been busy.  This last weekend I had my daughter’s baptism so the whole family spent the weekend at my house.  It was super fun, but super tiring.  Today I will post my workouts from last 2 weeks ago that I didn’t post.  Also, this last week was deload week.  I know I am supposed to do some of my training during that time, but I couldn’t.  I felt motivated to do it, but just didn’t.  I have no excuses why I didn’t.  I was tired, I felt I needed a bigger break, but I should have done something.  It is over now and there isn’t anything I can do about it. I will pick up and move on from here.  All obstacles make us stronger so I will use my weakness from last week to make me stronger this week.  Cheer me on!

Dynamic Overhead Press

AM

Speed Overhead Press – 60% x 3 reps x 8 sets – 115 lbs

Lying Tricep Extension – 50% x 8 reps x 3 sets – 65 lbs

Dumbbell Fly – 50% x 12 reps x 3 sets – 20 lbs

PM

Bench Press – 60% x 12 reps x 3 sets – 195 lbs + 135 x 5 Pause reps

Dumbbell Lateral Raise – 50% x 12 x 3 – 15 lbs, 20 lbs, 20 lbs

Incline Bench Press – 135 x 5 Pause x 5

DB Shrugs – 100 x 12 x 3

Seated Lat Rows – 100 x 12, 130 x 12 x 2

My first powerlifting meet was awesome!  Over all I think I did pretty good.  I got 2nd place in the 242 lb weight class.  I didn’t hit all of my goals but I did PR.

Squat – wanted 485. 1) 405 Good 2) 425 Miss (not low enough) 3) 462 Miss (went too low and couldn’t stand up)

Bench – wanted 320. 1) 270 Good 2) 301 Good 3) 325 Good

Deadlift – wanted 500. 1) 405 Good 2) 455 Good 3) 501 Miss (but got it up using strongman method)

Total – 1185

Weigh-In and PR’s

This evening is my weigh-in for the SPF Rick Hussey Tribute Meet tomorrow.  This is my first ever powerlifting meet.  I will be competing against professional lifters.  My goals for this first meet are to 1) Hit at least my current PR, 2) Not miss a lift, and 3) Hit 320 on Bench Press, 485 on Squat, and 500 on Deadlift for a total of 1,305 lbs.
